Kevin Stebner is an artist, poet and musician from Calgary, Alberta. He is also the proprietor of Calgary's best bookstore that's in a shed, Shed Books. His typewriter-based concrete poetry compositions are intricate, expressive and psychedelic, hearkening back to the groundbreaking work of Dom Sylvester Houedard while exploring totally new modes of expression. For his contribution to LAY—OUT Stebner presents 39 new works (plus a 40th if you count both the intense mountainscape cover done entirely with underlines!) created entirely — laboriously! — by hand on various typewriters. These poems are a deep dive into nearly physical spaces, with expressive dollops, vast mechanical assemblages and the beginnings of whole new worlds that have been coaxed out of clunky machines of yesteryear.
